A driver has been cautioned by Swadlincote Police for calling a female officer 'Babe' and obstructing the pursuit of a stolen vehicle.

The town's Safer Neighbourhood Team gave details of the incident in which a police car was almost hit by a careless driver.

And they repeated pleas to always give way to emergency vehicles.

The SNT explained more on its Facebook page and said: "We all know how good Jo Saddington's code blue driving is.

"Whilst travelling code blue to an incident involving a stolen vehicle, an incompetent driver nearly drove head on into the police vehicle and blocking its access.

"Knowing the stolen vehicle was nearby, Jo had no choice but deal with the incompetent diver.

"As angry Jo approached, the driver opened his window and said "What's up babe?".

"Wrong thing to say!

"You can work out the rest.

"You should take action to let the emergency vehicle pass, but it's important to remember that you need to keep within the letter of the law in doing so."
