An 11-year-old child was airlifted to hospital this morning after being hit by a car on the A444 at Castle Gresley.

Derbyshire Police were called just before 7.40am to attend the collision.

They say the girl was taken to Queen's Medical Centre in Nottingham by Air Ambulance for treatment and that no further information is available at this time.

Police say the area should be avoided as the Burton Road in Castle Gresley has been closed between the Cadley Hill Island and Toons furniture store due to the serious collision.

Drivers should take alternative routes where possible.
