Swadlincote Police have warned motorists they will be looking for speeding drivers over the next few days.

They say that they are acting on complaints from the public.

As well as that, the police say that they plan to check vehicles are also road legal during the operation.

Swadlincote's Safer Neighbourhood Team posted on their Facebook page and said: "What happens when the public of South Derbyshire complain to their SNT team about increased speeding on their roads?

"We action it!

"Over the next few days we will be putting on an operation to target speeding vehicles, vehicles without insurance and other traffic offences.

"We will be stopping and dealing with those we suspect are breaking the law.

"Make sure you are fully road legal, keeping to speed limits and only making essential journeys, otherwise we look forward to speaking to you."

Police have an update on Thursday on their Facebook page - and promised to carry on their clampdown.

They posted: "We've been out and about with the speed gun today and are pleased to report that the majority of vehicles checked were driving within the limits.

"We spent time on Hartshorne Road, Union Road, Gresley Wood Road, the A444 at Castle Gresley and Hearthcote Road.

"Of those five locations, vehicles were only found to be speeding on Hartshorne Road where 15 per cent of drivers were exceeding the limit. They will be receiving a 'treat' from us through the letter box!

"We also dealt with two vehicles who had no insurance, with the van being driven with no MOT, it was due to be done last year.

"We will be continuing with this clampdown."
