Swadlincote Police made hard work of catching youngsters who had entered an abandoned building in the High Street.

The town's Safer Neighbourhood team posted that officers - nicknamed Batman and Robin - climbed a wall to gain entrance and were then faced with a 10ft drop.

But it seems the children involved got in simply by using the steps from the road outside.

However, the police have used the incident as a warning to parens not to let their children play in abandoned buildings.

The SNT post reads: "Tonight Batman and Robin were asked to investigate an abandoned building on the High Street, Swadlincote.

"It was believed kids were inside.

"Unfortunately, our dynamic duo did not live up to their name and had to climb over a 7ft wall (which had anti-climb paint on) to reach the building.

"They then encountered a 10ft drop to where the kids were.

"On asking them how they got onto the roof, they sarcastically pointed out some steps straight from the road!

"On a more serious note, please educate your children not to play in abandoned buildings. As can be seen from the pictures, they are very dangerous and can be hard to reach for our emergency services."
