Staff at a Swadlincote coronavirus testing centre were threatened and subjected to verbal abuse.

Swadlincote's Safer Neighbourhood Team were 'shocked' when told of the incident and plan to visit the man responsible for the outburst.

A post on the SNT's Facebook page did not reveal the location of the centre but says it happened as a result of him not being willing to give his details.

The community testing programme has been up and running since last month in Swadlincote, Midway and Church Gresley Swadlincote centres are part of county council roll out.

The SNT's message reads: "The safer neighbourhood team have visited all three Covid testing sites in South Derbyshire, the staff were given some treats as a thank you for all the hard work they have been doing to keep our community safe.

"All three site managers thanked us and supported our actions in preventing the spread of Covid.

"We were also very shocked to hear that staff at one test set had to put up with threats and verbal abuse after refusing to test someone who would not give his details.

"We know who you are so expect a visit from us."
