Man charged with Swadlincote Tesco robbery and assault

A 24-year-old man has been charged in connection with the robbery of a Tesco store in Swadlincote.

The force was called just before 6.15am yesterday (Monday 2 August) to reports of a robbery at the Tesco Express Store, in Hearthcote Road.

Billy Howard, of Westfield Road, Swadlincote, was arrested in Elford, Staffordshire, yesterday afternoon.

The investigation was continued by Derbyshire Police's CID department.

Today, Howard has been charged with one count of robbery and one count of assault by beating.

He has been remanded in police custody and was due to appear today (Tuesday) at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates' Court.

Swadlincote Safer Neighbourhood Team posted on their Facebook page: "Some fantastic work by all the officers and police staff involved."
