A driver crashed into a signpost in Swadlincote last night - taking it clean out of the ground.

South Derbyshire Police Response Unit tweeted this photo after the incident on Moira Road.

It shows a BMW after it had uprooted a weight limit except for access sign.

The police message suggested that the weather conditions may have played a part.

The Response Unit message reads: "Group 1 officers also attended this Road Traffic Collision this evening on Moira Road, Swadlincote.

"Please drive to the conditions.

"Thanks to Derbyshire Special Constabulary for assisting us with this one #drivetoarrive."
