Swadlincote's famous 50s American Diner are hoping to reopen in the near future with lockdown restrictions easing but have yet to set a date, with early June mooted as a possible aim.

The US styled diner, in Church Gresley, first opened in the mid 2000s and has become a popular restaurant in the South Derbyshire region, attracting customers from all across the UK with the diner originating from a 1950s Massachusetts establishment.

Manager Sydney Money is hopeful that the diner will be back up and running soon and is carefully keeping a watchful eye on any changes after the easing of restrictions.

"At the moment we are unsure of our plans to open as Government dates can change but fingers crossed it will be soon.

"It's ensuring that everything is as safe as possible for both customers and staff alike and that we are following all Government guidelines. It's looking like perhaps the beginning of June.... provided nothing changes in the meantime."

The 50s American Diner was first opened by Jeff Laight and Trish Whitehouse but was purchased by local brothers Vinny and Umesh Kotecha in late 2019 and will be looking to get the restaurant back up and running within the next few months.
